Orchestral concerts include performances by Joshua Bell amp; the Camerata Salzburg and Oleg Maisenberg amp; the Kremerata Baltica while on the jazz front there is the Nigel Kennedy Quintet featuring the famous English violinist.
I went to see the Nigel Kennedy Quintet when they performed at the Salisbury Festival in the UK and they were brilliant and for those of you who are culturally energised it is well worth travelling to this fantastic city and festival.

Founder’s Day

Founder’s Day is not just a day but a weekend of celebration and reenactment of events that took place prior to the Revolutionary War. Founder’s Day celebrations are held during the second weekend of November and include a mock debate at Faneuil Hall Center about whether the colonies should seek independence as well as the famous ride of Paul Revere that takes place from the Hall to the House of Paul Revere. This is one event that you will not want to miss when you visit the city of Boston.

Caroling in the Common

Each Sunday in December bring your voice to the Boston Common where you can sing Christmas Carols in the center of the Common. Caroling in the Common is open to anyone who wants to join in the festivities and is a free event. The Boston Common is also alive at this time of the year with ice skating hot chocolate and hot chestnut vendors. St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

Bean Town Days

The great bakedbean bake off takes place every Memorial Day weekend at the Boston Common. The Bean Town Days also features a fair with craft vendors and a carnival. Esplanade Art Festival

The Esplanade Art Festival is held the first Saturday of August and features the art work of some of the finest local artists. Albert Park- From Active Volcano To The Centerpiece Of Auckland

Remember the film the Chronicles of Narnia? Albert Park in Auckland New Zealand is a real life park that is almost as unreal and scenic as the movie set. Albert Park is actually the site of the earliest volcanic eruptions in the Auckland area a volcano is believed to have erupted here between 60000 and 140000 years ago.

A Maori settlement called Rangipuke flourished here before the arrival of European settlers and later the site became a defense post when the Albert Barracks were built in 1845. Later the Auckland city council decided to clear away the barracks and pathways and gardens were laid out the gardeners cottage was given a facelift and was turned in to the Albert Park House. In 1887 the newly constructed park opened to the public it was designed in the French Renaissance style and a new building was built to house the Auckland Art Gallery.

The tasteful and beautifully carved Victorian fountain has been described as the centerpiece of the park by many visitors; the nearby statue of Queen Victoria was unveiled in 1899 in celebration of the 60th year of her reign. Two muzzle loading guns can also be seen on display here they were originally brought to New Zealand in 1879 to protect the Auckland harbor. The guns were later hidden during the Second World War to hide them from enemy planes and were finally unearthed in 1977. Among the parks more eccentric attractions is the Laidlaw floral clock; this electrically powered clock has a number of beautiful and fragrant flowers around the dial.

Among the more contemporary works of art that can be seen here are Neil Dawsons Throwback sculpture and Chris Booths imposing Gateway sculpture. The private collection of Bruce Wilkinson can also be seen here and features a vast collection of ceramics and clocks. An interesting fact about Albert Park is that it is literally riddled with underground tunnels and bunkers that were dug during the Second World War as air raid shelters. Though plans were underway to open them to the public the project has not yet transpired.
