The designation was given as part of a marketing effort to popularize the area with the City Council of Oklahoma City recognizing it as an official entertainment district in 2003. The Adventure District has a large concentration of tourist destinations with some of the most popular attractions located here that include the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden Science Museum Oklahoma National Softball Hall of Fame and Museum Oklahoma State Firefighters Museum National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum Remington Park 45 Division Infantry Museum and the Cinemark Tinseltown USA movie theater.

Some of the exhibits date back to the mid 1700s while some of them relate to the first fire station built in 1864 in Oklahoma Territory and the oldest fire company in the United States that was commanded by Benjamin Franklin. Apart from displays of fire fighting apparatus and equipment the museum also honors all Oklahoma firefighters whove served since the creation of the Oklahoma State Firefighters Association in 1894 while firefighters who lost their lives saving people are honored in the Wall of Valor.

Knowledge district would be a better name for Adventure District OKC as there are more museums dealing with subjects ranging from science to cowboys. The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden is one great family destination and the kids would love every moment of the visit.
