To Rent Or Not To Rent In Vancouver For 2010 Olympics
Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver are quickly approaching and Olympic tickets are currently on sale in different countries. As tickets are being purchased more and more people around the globe are starting to actively plan their trips to Vancouver . One of the most important aspects of the trip is accommodation. Finding a perfect place to stay in Vancouver can be a challenge but it is not impossible.
If you would call any of the hotels in Downtown Vancouver today and ask them about the availability of rooms for 2010 Olympics you would hear one of the two standard responses: 1 everything is booked out to organizations or corporate clients; or 2 there might be some rooms available in March after Vancouver Olympic Committee decides how many rooms they are booking.
While you might want to wait until later in the year to see what becomes available I would not count on easily finding rooms in any of the hotels in Vancouver . Even if you get lucky it will take you awhile and prices might be 23 times higher than regular rates during the same nonOlympic period. So what is your alternative?
There are several companies that advertise private vacation rental properties for Vancouver Winter Olympics. We conducted research among several such companies to get an average price for various types of properties in different parts of Greater Vancouver area.

Now what are the next steps? First of all you will need to decide what part of the city would be the best for you. This will depend on the type of events that you are planning to attend. There are several Olympic venues that are located in different parts of Greater Vancouver or even in Whistler. For example if you are interested in Opening and Closing Ceremonies you will look in Downtown area but if you are interested in speed skating you might want to consider Richmond .
Second decide on your budget and stick to it. If you are coming for a week extra 50100 per day will add up quickly.
And lastly have fun and enjoy Vancouver ! It is one of the best cities in the world.

Tips For Preparing A Vacation Home Rental Agreement
Tips For Preparing A Vacation Home Rental Agreement
I have encountered many vacation home owners who rent without a written contract. They do so at their own risk. Although the majority of vacation renters are very good and go out of there way to keep your property in order it just takes one bad renter incident or one misunderstanding that can really spell trouble.
For example I had an experience where 12 people showed up to rent an island rental home that only specified an occupancy limit of 6 in the advertising and contract. A dozen people in a smaller place can put a lot of wear and tear on the property not to mention utility use. If there had not been an occupancy limit in the contract it would have been more difficult to enforce and ask the additional people to find another place. Another reason to have an occupancy limit is to restrict large parties in the vacation home. You many not want renters to hold parties of fifty people in your 46 capacity person home for weddings reunions etc.
Rely on personal experiences to help customize your contract. I did encounter a shortterm renter who rearranged the furniture around and put all the knickknacks in the closet. It was a hassle to move everything back to its original order. Now I include the phrase in our contracts rearranging the furniture or decor is not allowed.
As owner of the vacation homes rental website http://www.rentals2remember.com I thought it was important to provide contract tips that may be beneficial to property owners. All rental agreements may differ a little but there are some items that should be essential to your vacation rental contract:
Payment Terms
Security Deposit Refund Policy
Cancellation Policy to include noshows late arrivals early departures
Checkin and Checkout times
Occupancy Limit
Care of Property Furniture Appliances dont move furniture around
Cleaning Policy Trash Removal
Policy of Keeping Home Secure locked when away
Other considerations might be a pet policy or a smoking policy.
I recommend that you always consult with an attorney first to review your rental contract to make sure it is in compliance with local and state government regulations or any association regulations and to make sure it covers all necessary issues to protect yourself as a property owner.
